The story begins with the Estes & Camarena families’ goal of enhancing the agave flavor in a 100% Blue Weber Tequila through the infusion of cooked agave into the Tequila. As friends and business partners, they set out to create something extremely agave forward: Curado.

To make Curado, we begin with a Blanco 100% Tequila from renowned Master Distiller Carlos Camarena as a base, then we infuse the liquid with pieces of cooked agave using our proprietary process.

The cooked agave in Curado infusions comes from a variety of regions in Mexico including Jalisco, Oaxaca, and Michoacán.

Each variety of agave used for the infusion is cooked using the traditional methods of its respective region and imparts a slight sweetness to Curado.

We currently infuse three varieties of cooked agave into Curado—Blue Weber, Cupreata and Espadin.

Carlos Camarena

Carlos Camarena is a third-generation Master Distiller and agronomist, internationally recognized for crafting some of the world's most acclaimed tequilas. His commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability has earned him numerous industry honors, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards in recognition of his forward-thinking approach and dedication to sustainable production.

Carlos is especially respected among leading bartenders and spirits professionals worldwide for his iconic brands, including Tequila Ocho, Tapatío, and El Tesoro.

Together with his family, Carlos recently opened the Los Alambiques Distillery, the home of Curado and Tequila Ocho. There, alongside the next generation of the Camarena family, he continues to carry forward a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and respect for tradition.

Tomás Estes

Tomás Estes was one of the most influential figures in the global growth of tequila over the last four decades. A true innovator, he dedicated his life to sharing his passion for tequila and Mexican culture with audiences around the world.

Appointed Tequila Ambassador to Europe by the Mexican Tequila Chamber, he was the co-creator of both Tequila Ocho and Tequila Curado.

Throughout his career, he received numerous industry awards and accolades in recognition of his contributions to the tequila category. He was also the author of the acclaimed memoir and tequila guide The Tequila Ambassador.

Tomás’s legacy continues to inspire tequila enthusiasts and producers alike, leaving an enduring mark on the industry worldwide.
